All about Depression


Are you really in Depression…
Depression is often mistaken as the feeling of sadness, bad mood of feeling down. However, such feelings are quite normal response for daily actions and one can rise above them in short period of time. The actual case of depression would the one where a person is experiencing continuous mood swings or feeling of depression of a number of weeks, months or so. As a result of being depressed, an individual is not able to make up to their daily tasks or does not get pleasure from things that he/she enjoyed earlier to depression.

Different types of Medication for Depression…
So if you experience a consistent feeling of the blues for a long time then you may require help. A number of anti depressants are available in the market today and are broadly divided into three categories which are as follows: Tricyclics, The new medication and Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors abbreviated as MAOIs. These medications are developed to relieve a depression sufferer in as less time as possible usually in 1-3 weeks and are quite famous due to quick results.

The bad effects of Different Medications on the Body…
The effects of the depression relieving medications may differ from one body to another and/or from one medication to another.

The tricyclic drug like elavil may make a depression sufferer feel sleepy, whereas using vivactil may generate a feeling of nervousness and impatience which is not desired for a depression patient. This type of medication may also increase heart problems. So people who are prescribed with this medication are monitored intensively during the course.

The new anti depressants include SSRIs such as wellbutrin may cause the patient some common side effects such as headaches, anxiety, insomnia, weight gain or stomach problems. If you have been taking medication previous to this one then you should wait for at least 2 weeks.

The usage of MAOIs Drugs may lead to increased heart rate, dizziness and may also cause negative effects with certain food or beverages or medication. People who are prescribed with MAOI drug usually have limited diet.
